|"DANCE"—the new one-hour series stemming from the highly successful "Glee"—follows Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr., “Glee”), an aspiring dance instructor, as he seeks to make a name for himself in the dance world. While Lima, OH, may not be the ideal place to start, it’s Mike’s hometown and he wants to give back to the community that ignited his passion for dance.
Shortly after receiving a B.A. in dance from Harvard, Mike returns to Lima and buys a decrepit studio. The studio comes attached with its caretaker, Jeremy (Alan Rickman, “Harry Potter”), a curmudgeon with a secret penchant for dance. Other adults involved in the dance studio include Alex Campbell (Eliza Dushku, “Dollhouse”), a dance instructor with a tough girl attitude; Thornton Stoneburner (Misha Collins, “Supernatural”), an accountant and fellow instructor with excellent jazz hands; Adrian Shum (Marko Germar, “So You Think You Can Dance”), Mike’s cousin and a professional dancer; and Adrian's boyfriend, Cameron Sia (Tadd Gadduang, “So You Think You Can Dance”), a fellow dancer.
While this ragtag group of adults runs the school, it’s the students who are the heart of the academy. The students vary in their backgrounds and level of dance proficiency. They include Clara Appleman (Aimee Teegarden), a 19-year-old from Texas who wants to see her name in lights; Hannah Parsons (Jenna Dewan Tatum), a bossy rich girl who hides her loneliness using snark; Zach Crum (Kent Boyd), a kind-hearted country boy who's been dancing since he was 8; Blaise Anderson (Ian Nelson), who is itching to step outside of older brother, Blaine's, shadow; Amanda Collins (Jordan Casanova), a girl who uses dance to escape her troubled home life; and Peter Thresher (Taylor Kitsch), a star football player who dreams of becoming a ballerino.
Mike has enough on his plate between keeping the eccentric teachers from melting down and attempting to inspire his students. However, he faces another challenge in Jennette Parsons (Lisa Kudrow, “Friends”), a ruthless stage mom who will stop at nothing to ensure that her daughter, Hannah, gets every solo.
Even though Mike is handling a lot of responsibility, he tries to hold it all together by remembering that he's doing the one thing he loves most: dance.
Guests will include former members of the Glee cast: Brittany S. Pierce (Heather Morris), Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss), Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), and Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz).
BRITTANY S. PIERCE
|Born and raised in Lima, Ohio, with parents that basically own half of the town, there isn't much that Hannah Parsons doesn't get. Hannah's father has a monopoly of offices for his self-made business and her mother dedicates every waking moment to Hannah's needs.
Hannah has the same ambition as most other dancers: move to New York and see her name in the bright lights.
She can often come off as bossy and self-involved, but insists this comes from nobody in her school/friends having dreams as big as hers so she got used to doing it alone, and that's why she often appoints herself as the leader of a situation.
Hannah doesn't really have anybody to call friends, but she claims she prefers it that way as there's no reason for her to be held back from achieving her dreams.
Like a certain Jewish diva we once know and sometimes love, Hannah takes the star metaphor literally with her stylish clothing and is never scared to let her wealth show through her wardrobe.
|Jennette's purpose in life is to give her daughter everything she wants - money, clothes, cars - but all Hannah really wants to do is dance. So Jennette will do everything in her power to make sure Hannah has the best teacher, the best accessories and the best solos.
Jennette is often seen hanging around the dance studio, making sure her daughter gets the best of everything. If there was a glamourous social circle in Lima, she would be at the tippy top of it. Jennette's husband is a self-made man who is just as invested in his daughter's future, though not with such ferocity.
She often attempts to persuade Mike with extra money under the table in exchange for more solos for Hannah. Besides Hannah, the rest of Jennette's life revolves around her 2 year old Pomeranian, Bubbles.
A little black dress, sequins, gold and diamonds, and of course, one cute Pomeranian! That's Jennette's secret to being the top socialite in Ohio.
|Jeremy seems to be quite miserable most of the time and students and teachers are always hearing him mumble under his breath, occasionally they hear him criticise the dancing. He is also seen looking through windows and doors watching the classes. Some students/teachers think it’s a little creepy.
What the teachers and students are unaware of is that Jeremy was once a prolific dancer in films in the 70’s and 80’s. He may have only been a background dancer in many of them, except for that one film where he was part of one of the main dancers, but he loved it and had hoped that he would slowly work his way up to lead actor/dancer. Unfortunately dance films and musicals went out of fashion and he found it had to get work. To support his family he had to take any job he could get and ended up working in a shop that printed people’s photographs, until that also went out of fashion. He is now a janitor at a dance studio, but thinks the job is a little beneath him, but he loves dance and is happy to be around dancers and dance again as it is his main passion.
One day Mike forgets his phone/house keys and returns to the studio only to find Jeremy dancing by himself in the main studio, Mike is mesmerised by it, not realising that the ‘scary’ caretaker is a fabulous dancer.
Bell bottom pants and disco suits are in the past, so now Jeremy's all about argyle sweaters and dress shirts.
|Clara is from Emery, Texas a town so small and rockwellian it barely gets even a smudge on the map. She’s quirky and quiet. She loves the ballet and sees art in the little things like a good book or a well coked meal. Everyone says she’s too short to make it at 5’7 everyone but her father who sold his most prized possession the family diner. To pay for her dance academy tution. She longs to make him proud and see her name in lights will she… can she we will see. She finds the academy knows she arrived.
Clara is a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl who also rocks the pearls and cowboy boots like the true Texan she is.
He is 18 years old and he is from Wapakoneta, OH. He began dancing when he was 8 years old and he has done several musicals. He specializes in Contemporary jazz but he can pretty much master any dance style.
He has never really fit in the sport world so he decided that he would try dancing. As soon as he danced for the first time he fell in love and now he never wants to stop dancing. His parents and his whole family are huge supporters of him.
He is just a little country boy with a great personality. He is has a great work ethic and has lots of energy. He is goofy, quirky, and just a sweetheart.
Zach owns various pants to dance in, but he also likes to own the casual but comfortable look without losing his sense of style.
|Peter’s father wants nothing more than for his son to be a sports star, mainly Football, but if he makes it as a basketball, baseball or even a soccer player his father would be happy, unfortunately Peter doesn’t want that.
He just wants to dance.
So he makes up a sports club/extra tuition class he goes to after school/weekends to cover for the fact that he is actually going to dance classes.
His father thinks that all male dancers are gay and that no son of his would be a dancer; it’s unmanly unless you are dancing with your wife on your wedding day.
Peter has a secret dream to become a ballet dancer and also enjoys ballroom dance. He does do sport to keep his father happy, but he doesn’t enjoy it all that much. Peter is straight but has trouble with girls, they make him nervous!
His father doesn’t know he goes to dance classes yet.
Jeans, a letterman jacket and T-shirts. Peter likes to keep it simple. (He's up for anything if it's a dance costume, though.)
|Amanda was born in California and lived there until she was 16, when her dad's job got transferred to Lima. Her nickname is her last name, Collins, and she despises when people call her Amanda because only her parents do. She has been dancing her entire life, both as something she loves to do and as an escape from her house, which has always been something of a personal hell for her. Her mother has been an alcoholic since she was very little, and she has gotten abusive on more than one occasion. Her father, a workaholic, is near oblivious to what has been going on, though sometimes she wonders if he knows what's happening and throws himself into his work to escape, which she resents him for. Her life has made her somewhat of a bitter person, though she has a big heart, but she's very sarcastic and can be bitchy at times. She isn't afraid to tell it like it is and if someone's dancing sucks, she's going to tell them. She's also great with snappy comebacks and often moans about how much better her dance classes in California were, even though secretly, she enjoys Mike's class the most out of all of them because of how deeply he cares for all of his students. Often, she's thought of confiding in Mike about her home situation, but has so far decided against it for fear of what her mother may do. She is insecure in her everyday life, which she hides with her sarcasm, but when she's on stage dancing, she has all the confidence in the world, which is just another reason for her to love dance.
Amanda lived in California until she was 16, so she likes to show off her state pride through accessories and T-shirts. However, she's not afraid to break out the dresses or short shorts from time to time.
|Alex is one of the dance teachers at Mike's studio. She is a tough girl coming from a rather bad past, which she escaped by dancing. Besides dancing, her other passions are kick-boxing and her bike, she loves to get on it and just drive wherever the road will take her.
She is not somebody who lets people in easily but once she has become your friend, Alex is one of the most loyal ones you can have and she'll do anything for you. Besides this she is the kind of person who is quite reckless in getting what she wants and she definitely knows what she wants, Mike Chang.
As a teacher, she is tough on her students because she know if they really want to make it, they will encounter an even tougher world once out there as dancers. She does, however, also know when to give them a break and while being tough on them she is also one of those teachers that students love because she is the cool one that will also be there for them when they got problems.
Alex wears clothes which show her as tough while remaining sexy. When not dancing she can often be seen in leather, T-shirts, jeans and boots.
|He is Mike's accountant and also the school's jazz dance teacher. He is intense, waffling from serious to inspired and crazy... when he's not doing accounting, that is. Doing Mike's accounting calms him, unless someone forgets to get him a receipt. The jazz dancer's feet always hurt for weeks when that happens.
Dance for him is something he has to do. His family pressured him not to pursue a career in it, but he did anyway. It's in every cell of his being that he has to be choreographing or dancing back up... just moving rhythmically.
Also, he really loves jazz hands a lot. Non-ironically.
Thornton can hardly be criticized for dressing like an accountant considering his occupation, but when he's relaxing the top button comes undone and T-shirts appear under an open shirt.
|Adrian is a fellow dancer and Mike's cousin on his father's side, and Mike sees him as a brother. Adrian and his boyfriend, Cameron, occasionally pop into the studio and help Mike with teaching choreography. He met his current boyfriend, Cameron, in an all-boys college in Maryland. After a year and a half of being friends, Adrian came to terms with the fact that he was gay. Coming out of the closet wasn't easy, and his parents basically disowned him. He went through a dark period, but with Cameron at his side he no longer cares what others think. They share an apartment in New York, and they're one of the most ridiculous and steady couples Mike has ever met.
Adrian likes the preppy, casual look. It makes him feel like he's in college again, and those were some of the best years of his life... mostly because of Cameron, but his style wasn't too shabby either. He favors striped sweaters and plaid shirts. Where do you think Mike got it from?
|Cameron's been with Adrian for nearly five years. He's a complete goofball, and the yin to Adrian's more serious yang, but he's fiercely loyal and has no tolerance for bullshit drama. They've never been shy about their relationship and their feelings, but commitment's a complicated word for him. Lately he wonders if Adrian wants to take the next step. And what, really, is the next step? Is he ready? Will he ever be ready?
Cameron's all about the wifebeaters, baggy jeans and camouflage. They're stylish and they give him enough room to pop and lock without the fear of anything ripping. Skinny jeans and eye-blinding accessories? Hellll no.

EPISODE TITLES & DESCRIPTIONS
01X01 I HOPE YOU DANCE
|In flashback, Mike remembers his graduation day from McKinley High, where everyone was still feeling pretty positive about their own futures. Nowadays, Mike is just arriving in New York, ready to start his own dance studio. He's just out of college and his father is still very much unsupportive of his carreer, but he has the support of his mother and Tina - who's in Law School herself now, and is still with Mike. Though it seems tough to start a business in this city, he purchases an old, decrepit building on the verge of being brought down. The only person still working on the condemned building is an old caretaker, Jeremy Armstrong, who's a little creepy. Mike is ready to turn the building around with the help of Blaine (who's trying to make in New York himself) and Brittany (who dropped out of High School and became a stripper in New York, until the boys recruited her as a dance teacher).
Mike also hires Alex, a very talented - yet a little too flirty - dancer.
01X02 JUST DO IT
|Mike, Blaine and Brittany hold auditions for the dance studio. However, when Mike comes to work on Monday he finds Jennette Parsons waiting for him, looking around with mistrust. Her daughter, Hannah Parsons, is a huge fan of Mike ever since she first saw him dance at Nationals, years before and thinks he's the best, the only one who'll make her successful - even though her mother could pay for more expensive, qualified teachers. Therefore, Jennette wants her daughter to have a spot in Mike's studio, no matter how good or bad she auditions. In desperate need for students and money to keep the studio open, Mike can only hope the kid is good.|
01X03 FATHER AND SON
|Adrian, Mike's favorite cousin, and Cameron, his partner, come to Lima for the weekend to take a look at Mike's new studio. And it's very hard to learn through them that his parents are getting a divorce and didn't bother to tell him - so now Mike's got to make a very difficult visit and face his father, who hasn't spoken to him in over five years. Meanwhile, Blaine gets a very special visit: Shelby, wanting to enroll Beth in the kid's dancing class. And Brittany takes it on herself to help the new students mingle and know each other better.|
01X04 ALL THAT JAZZ
|When Mike hires uptight Thornton Stoneburner, all he's after is a good, serious accountant to do the books on the Studio. He didn't expect to get a frantic jazz teacher as well. Alex catches Jeremy peeking on her classes and confronts him. Jeremy finds a random excuse, but Amanda - who overhears everything - is intrigued. Peter lies to his father about football practice to go to dance class. When Mike catches him lying on the phone, he decides to help Peter. Blaine learns Kurt's in town, visiting his father, so he takes a day off to go see him.|
01X05 I DON'T FEEL LIKE DANCING
|While browsing on Youtube, Amanda finds footage of an old 1970s movie and one of the dancers looks a lot like... Creepy Caretaker Jeremy! Of course, Jeremy denies everything, but after Amanda catches him dancing his ass off after hours, he admits to his past, begging her to keep it a secret. Though she agrees to it, Amanda takes it on herself to relight Jeremy's career. Meanwhile, Zach tries to hide his eating disorder from the other students, and Jennette clashes with Blaine when he refuses to give Hannah a solo - which leads to Blaine having a fight with Mike when he insists they need Jennette's money to keep the studio running.|
|From episode 01X02.
It’s still sinking in that this place is his. His own dance studio; right here in Lima. Is he ready for this? The papers he’s signed say he is; along with the big chunk of money that he signed over. The Building is perfect- the staff is coming together. Everything will fall into place.
If students actually enroll. But if you never try, you never succeed, right?
He pulls into the parking lot, grabs his briefcase and heads towards the front door, keys in hands. It’s still early morning in Lima. Mike’s still on a college schedule of early morning and late nights. He’s picking up a little work on the side choreographing a couple of numbers for New Directions at McKInley- it doesn’t pay much, but it will help with his rent and hopefully Mr. Schue could talk up the studio to some of the newest New Directions.
Mike’s concentrating on moves for a new Beyonce number when someone steps from the shadows and introduces herself.
“Mr. Chang, I presume?” A well dressed older blonde woman steps out from the shadows. She looks a little familiar, Mike realizes. Standing beside her is a brunette girl with a giant smile.
“Yes?” He answers, still a little startled.
“This is your lucky day.” The woman says with a grin. “Or it could be. I’m Jennette Parsons. This is my daughter, Hannah, who is undoubtedly the most talented dancer from Ohio, ever. Or she will be. Pure, unbridled talent. My daughter is a star, and she will be rich, famous, and adored by everyone. There is no mountain too high, no river too low, nothing I won’t do to help Hannah reach her full potential. That’s where you come in.”
Jennette nods. “Hannah came to me, with a flyer for your studio, saying that you are the teacher that we’ve been looking for- someone who will challenge her and help her develop her multitude of skills. I’ve done a background check on you, and it seems like my daughter has a good idea. I’d like to enroll Hannah here, on a probationary basis, to see if this is what she needs. And if it is, I’ll be willing to personally bankroll any additional personnel or equipment needed to help Hannah. This could be a very financially prosperous situation for you, Mr. Chang. ”
“Please, call me Mike. I would love to have Hannah join us here.” He says with a gentle smile. “But before we do the paperwork, I need to have her audition, so we can see where her strengths lie, and what classes might be the best fit.”
“Excellent!” Jennette claps her hand. “There’s no time like the present.” She motions to the door. “Shall we?”
“Actually, the other staff members who are assisting me in auditions should be in about a half hour- Mr. Blaine Anderson, and Ms. Brittany Pierce. We can start as soon as they are here- and that will give Hannah time to warm up.” Mike nods. “We’ve got a lounge where you can relax until it’s time for the audition, Mrs. Parsons.”
“It will give me a chance to run Bubbles through his daily affirmations.” Jennette patted her purse, and disappeared through the door.
“She named her purse Bubbles?” Mike wrinkled his nose.
“Bubbles is her dog. My “baby brother”,” Hannah used her fingers to make air quotes. “If he had an ounce of talent for anything besides pooping in strange places, I think she’d make him a star.” She sighed. “Anyway, thank you so much, Mr. Chang, for this opportunity. I’ve been a fan of you since I saw you perform at Glee Club nationals, when I was a kid. To study under you would be totally epic.”
“Thank you. “ Mike said. “Glee club was a lot of fun.”
“I thought about joining, but I need to spend all my time on dance. I’m going to be famous.”
“First things first.” Mike said. “Auditions today, Broadway tomorrow.” He motioned for Hannah to enter the studio.
Mike turned on the lights and went to his office. He picked up his phone to text Tina. “I think I just met the second coming of Rachel Berry.” He typed quickly, and set about starting his day.
